Tain Highland Gathering

Another successful day at the games!

Added on 13 August 2009

The 17th Tain Highland Gathering took place today. We were blessed with a fantastic day of weather - just right for competing with excellent numbers of competitors in every event.  The day started at the Duthac Centre with our past Chieftains congregating to welcome our Chieftain for this year, Alasdair Rhind, local councillor and businessman.  Also in attendance, to celebrate Homecoming, was Chief of the Clan Ross, David Ross of Ross & Balnagowan and over 150 members of Clan Ross from Finland, USA and Canada.  We were very pleased they were able to join in our traditional parade down High Street led by our Honorary President Murray Macleod and the Ross & Cromarty Pipes and Drums School Pipe Band, joined also by members of Tain Pipe Band.  From there, the parade made their way round the games field for the official opening of the games and presentation of the cromach to Alasdair Rhind by last year's Chieftain, Mr Edward Mackenzie.  After a few words from Andy Macdonald, Manager of Glenmorangie Distillery, on behalf of our sponsors, the games were declared open.

There was a very full day of competitions with a Ground Record being broken in the 16lb Tain Stone event by Scott Rider from London.  See the full results for 2009 on the Results page.

The Committee would like to thank everyone who came along and supported the day and especially those who gave up their time to help on the field, at the gates, or in any other way to help make the day go so well.

Thank you all!
